Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Occupational Safety Auditor, the Coordinator assists in maintaining high safety, health, and environmental standards at all our client sites which includes drill sites, camps, laydowns, workshops, and accommodation facilities. The position encompasses
inspections, audits, training, investigations and advisory/ and representative tasks. The EHS
Coordinator works in direct support of operations and includes surface and underground visits, day,
and night. This position will have a heavy weighting on environmental and sustainability aspects and
the successful candidate will need to have good experience in the environmental domain and a
thorough understanding of ISO 14001.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The employee’s duties, without limitation, consist of:
• Ensure EHS fundamental are implemented at site level
• Cooperate with supervisors and managers and actively participate in the
EHS system elements and client programs.
• Conducted/facilitate EHS Onboarding BITS modules
• Enter leading indicators and incident data and other required information into the Global EHS
Management System (GEMS) for trending indicators and action item closure
• Compilation of waste registers such waste oil, paper, foodstuffs, metal, batteries etc
• Compilation of recycling register
• Updating the Aspects and Impacts Register
• Collation of Scope 1 and 2 emissions data
• Collation of fuel usage data
• Tasks to support ESG initiatives
• Draft and implement site environmental plans
• Prepare teams for ISO 14001 and 45001 Audits as well as internal audits
• Do monthly Facility and environmental inspections
• Advising on requirements to minimize safety risks
• Develop and implement EHS policies (e.g., Incident reporting process)
• Conduct Incident Investigations
• Encourage standardisation of safety policies
• Keep records of safety incidents and propose corrective measures
• Organize and conduct EHS training plans
• Work with site managers and supervisors to monitor compliance and identify safety issues
• Draft and send various reports
• Liaison and reporting to official regulators on EHS issues
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Proven experience as an environmental or EHS coordinator or in-depth knowledge of EHS
guidelines and practices (in the mining sector)
• Experience in reporting and policy development
• Experience in implementing EHS training programs
• MS Office Master’s
• Excellent communication and advisory skills
• Diligent with an analytical mind
• Perfectly Bilingual (Swahili and English)
• Valid Driver’s and ability to drive in the mine site.
Qualification Preferences
• Lead Implementer or Auditor in ISO 14001
• Nebosh Certificates and or bachelor’s degree Environmental Health and Safety
• OSHA Qualifications
• Current First Aid/Advanced First Aid Certificates
• Other EHS qualifications pertinent to mining, construction or the environment
