Core Objectives
The team member in this position is responsible for leading the Company’s mine planning and land management processes. The Mining Manager is assigned responsibilities around mine permitting, regulatory documentation, mine optimization, and exploration services.
Responsibilities
- Life of mine planning for the mining department whilst overseeing all control and allocation of Capital Expenditure for continued operational management.
- Daily operational planning and execution of the mining operation. With this, you will need effective and efficient allocation of mining resources as measured by schedule compliance
- Preparation of the annual budget and management thereof
- Implementation of continuous improvement and cost control.
- Expansion of mining infrastructure and activities.
- Liaise with related services to support production planning.
- Supplier and vendor management
- Adequate management of the selected on-site contractor
- Ensure that all daily, weekly, and monthly department reports are completed accurately
- Open-pit mining – preferably from a large-scale operation
- The company requires a manager that is responsible, accountable, and results-driven. Transparency is also key in the relationship between GM and Mining Manager
- Direct and coordinate activities associated with the optimization of mining operations and ore utilization
- Develop and implement short, medium, and long-term mining plans
- Research and design of mine optimization and planning to further refine business components
- Work with the quality assurance/quality control group and mine operations team to develop and maintain quality and production plan
- Continuous improvement of mining operations whilst also proactively developing quality systems, approaches, and practices as needed.
- Ideally, the company (with the future in mind) would need a Mining Manager with the drive for efficiency of operation that comes with being a contractor & the attention to schedule and minimization of dilution that comes with being an owner/operator.
Regulatory/Permitting/Land Management
- Coordinate and conduct any land-related negotiations to ensure appropriate contracts and agreements are in place.
- Initiate and process permitting documentation related to mining activities
- Oversee mining and processing facility regulatory needs
- Ensure that all safety measures, guidelines, and regulations are being accurately followed and reporting of any concerns to the appropriate supervisors or regulatory personnel
- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager
Qualifications & Requirements:
- MUST have open pit mining experience preferable in Coal Mining, Surfacing Mining
- Minimum 10 years of experience preferably in Coal Mining, Surfacing Mining
- Requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mining engineering, mineral process engineering, or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of mining engineering, mineral process engineering/materials properties, and mining permitting
- Extensive experience with the field concepts, practices, and procedures to discover and measure nutrient sources
- An excellent understanding of various mining operations to be able to problem-solve and troubleshoot issues as they arise that impact the production of the mine
- Effective listening and verbal communication skills
- Able to deal with external business entities effectively, positively, and professionally such as vendors, customers, and regulators
- Exhibits professionalism in internal and external communications
Special Working Conditions
- You may be expected to work in accordance with the organization’s overtime policies.
- The nature of your role will require you to travel within the area that your team covers. However, from time to time you may be expected to travel outside that area as the job role requires.
